Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR], Ninth plate tintype of a soldier wearing a large cravat.

Ninth plate tintype seated portrait of an enlisted man in uniform including an almost humorously large cravat tied in a bow shape and a leather holster. (Spotting and surface scratches/abrasions to plate, corners clipped, image very clear; loose from crumpled mat and poorly-cut cover glass, no preserver present.) Housed in a full Union case (no velvet pad, significant wear throughout, non-functioning closure). The goateed subject wears a gray 10-button fatigue jacket or roundabout with pointed cuffs, collar, and cloth epaulets trimmed in black, and black-trimmed gray trousers. He poses with his arm resting on the back rail of the chair, in a somewhat casual fashion.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
