[CIVIL WAR]. War-date documents relating to Ohio, Indiana, and Wisconsin.

A group of seven Military Fund pay vouchers issued by the state of Ohio's Office of Auditor of State, six of which were issued for "Repelling Invasion" and one issued for "Governor's Contingent Fund." Each approx. 8 1/4 x 3 3/4 in. (toning, some with light dampstaining, scattered ink marks). Issue dates span September-November 1864. The treasurer's disbursement voucher was used in payment for militia soldiers [citizen soldiers] who rose up to defend the state following General John Hunt Morgan's three-week raid into Ohio and Indiana in the summer of 1863.

[With:] 12 X 24 in. partly printed muster out roll (small tears and losses, toning) dated near Vicksburg, MS for Adj. Cushman Cunningham dated June 5th, 1863 while the 16th Ohio was engaged in the Vicksburg Campaign. The reason for the form was his appointment as Captain of the Regiment. Cunningham served with the 16th Ohio as an officer (Captain) throughout the war and Adjutant. The 16th Ohio served in the west from late 1861 to September 1864. Cumberland Gap, Tazewell, The Vicksburg Campaign, and the Red River Campaign. -- 12 X 16 in. partly printed roll (small tears, losses, toning) mustering in Captain Cushman Cunningham as a Captain in the 16th Ohio. Dated June 5th, 1863 near Vicksburg where the 16th Ohio was involved in the Vicksburg Campaign.

[Also with:] Assorted documents related to soldiers from Ohio and Indiana regiments, including Chaplain Thomas Powell of the 65th Ohio, Charles E. Fowler of the 1st Ohio Light Infantry, and David S. Scott of the 8th Indiana.

[Also with:] A scarce letter written in Danish by a soldier identified as "Nielsen." April 1862.  Not translated to English. -- An affidavit paying Norman Randall, father of Private Calvin Randall, Co. A, 33rd Wisconsin, for pay due to his deceased son.
