Lot Description
Louis Vuitton 110cm Wardrobe Trunk, Late 19th Century

This trunk features the Initials P.P., likely for Pauline Palmer as her name is also listed on some of the paper labels adhered to the side. While this trunk does not also feature the initials for Bertha Palmer, the stripes of dark blue and red match the other trunks from the family and the overall design is similar.

Late 19th century wardrobe trunk in LV monogram stamped canvas, bound in wood slats with metal frame/sides, hardware, and handles, and brown leather handles at the top and bottom. The leather trim is marked with LV. The interior is lined in ivory canvas, with six removable drawers on the right side with leather straps marked "L.Vuitton". The left side is for hanging material and features nine hangers each marked "Louis Vuitton". There are several travel stickers on each of the sides. One of the stickers features "To Mrs. Potter Palmer / 1301 Astor Street / Chicago Illinois".

Condition Report
Condition:

The overall condition is fair with signifigant wear. The structure is sold and the trunk is usable, but it is clearly a trunk that was used for decades. The exterior of the case has marks throughout and the interior also shows marks and spots.

The absence of any reference to the condition of a lot does not imply that the lot is in perfect condition or completely free from wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. All other condition issues are stated above. To request additional working condition photos, please email [email protected] with the lot number. Condition is a matter of opinion of the evaluator and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Clients must review and agree to the Conditions of Sale before participating in an auction.

Any reference to condition in a catalogue description or a condition report shall not amount to a full accounting of condition. Condition reports prepared by Hindman staff are provided as a convenience and may be requested from the Department prior to bidding.
