Christian Dior Haute Couture Coat, Spring Summer 1954


"In the spring of 1954, I put forward the "Lily-of-the-Valley" line, inspired by my lucky flower, a line which was at once young, graceful and simple, and which was given unity by its colour: Paris blue," the couturier explained in his autobiogrpahy Christian Dior and I , 1957.

This haute couture coat was worn by Elizabeth Parke Firestone (1897–1990) who was married to Harvey Firestone Jr.. Mrs. Firestone Jr. was a major haute couture client, especially from Christian Dior. Many of her haute couture garments reside in museums around the United States. 

Navy wool coat with sailor collar, double breasted with blue anchor emblem buttons, hip pockets, and blue taffeta lining.
