Register includes lists of cadets arranged by class and "Order of general merit" (class rank). An unidentified hand has inscribed handwritten notations to the left of each cadet name for all classes, indicating what appears to be the status of each individual's Civil War service. Notations include "R" [Regular Army?], "D" ["Died" or "Deceased"], "S" [possibly "Southern" or "Secesh"], or in other cases the rank attained by the soldier. Other notes include "Ret," "Disch," "Dismiss."
