Binder housing items associated with Charles E. "Chuck" Yeager (1923-2020), who trained with the 357th Fighter Group at Tonopah, Nevada and shipped overseas with the group in November 1943. Gen. Charles Yeager achieved status as a fighter ace with the 357th. He was shot down in March 1944 evading capture with the help of the French Resistance before being reinstated to combat. Included with the lot are more than twenty Yeager autographs primarily on modern photographs but also on other pieces of ephemera.
Additional material in the lot includes background research, correspondence, modern photographs, signatures and ephemera related to other members of the 357th including Jerome "Jake" Jacobs, who became a German POW, as well as fighter aces Leonard K. "Kit" Carson, Joseph F. Pugh, Gerald E. Tyler, Richard A. Peterson, Clarence E. "Bud" Anderson, and Paul R. Hatala. The 357th produced the most aces in the Eighth Air Force and was credited with the most aerial victories in a single mission.
