49 x 94 in. printed and hand-sewn wool flag with 37 printed stars configured in 8/7/7/7/8 horizontal rows (some holes and areas of separation throughout, incl. 1 1/2 in. dia. hole in one of the stars, occasional soiling/spotting, toning). Hoist is cotton, with 3 brass grommets. Hoist is stamped "American Ensign 8-ft." and inscribed "Dr. OWN." 

The 37-star flag became official on 4 July 1867 with the admission of Nebraska. It would remain the official flag for close to a decade, until Colorado was admitted as the 38th state on 1 August 1876.
