Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Patriotic cockade, ca 1860s.

Hand-crafted cockade constructed of red, white, and blue silk arranged in a pleated circular form, with a central gold star adorned with gold wire and sequins, 2 3/4 in. dia. (toning, light soiling).

Worn by men, women and children in both the North and South, patriotic cockades were typically pinned to the lapel or at the hatband. This example is very well made, indicating that it is likely not Southern because of quality of workmanship and materials.
