[AFRICAN AMERICANA - EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. Sixth plate tintype of an African American police officer. 

Standing portrait of an African American police officer in full uniform including star-centered badge, belt, and night stick. (Some very light surface scratches/wipes, few spots, else good; unsealed.) Housed in a full pressed paper case (exterior wear, misalignment). Subject poses before a painted seashore backdrop and rests one hand on a studio prop fence next to him. His hat features the numeral "5" at center.
