Lot Description
[EARLY PHOTOGRAPHY]. A pair of quarter plate ambrotype portraits of men wearing fraternal regalia.
Seated portrait of a young man wearing a cap and red-tinted sash adorned with fringe and gold-highlighted stars and cockades. (Deterioration around subject, largely affecting one of his arms and hands, other imperfections present, spotting to mat; resealed.) Housed in a half pressed paper case. -- Full standing portrait of two men standing shoulder to shoulder, each wearing a differently colored fringed sash and apron with silver-highlighted details. The man on the viewer's left also wears a large pendant around his neck, which is likely also fraternal. (Some loss to image in lower portion, darkening to upper portion, and other abrasions and imperfections such as spotting throughout; unsealed but with newer backing attached to glass image plate.) Housed in a fully separated pressed paper case (split at spine). -- Together, a pair of quarter plate ambrotype portraits of men wearing fraternal regalia.
