[NATIVE AMERICANS]. BARRY, David F. (1854-1934), photographer. Cabinet card of Lakota Chief Red Horse. West Superior, WI, ca 1883.
4 x 5 1/2 in. cabinet photograph on cardstock mount (some soiling and residue on mount recto and verso, some edge wear to mount, sticker affixed to verso). Mount recto includes D.F. Barry's West Superior, Wisconsin, imprint and period manuscript identification.
An intimate portrait of Red Horse, who is shown wearing a military jacket, otter fur wrapped braids, and two eagle plumes in his hair.
Red Horse was a head chief within the council lodge of the Sioux camped at the Little Bighorn River. A participant in the Battle of Little Bighorn, Red Horse fought both Reno and Custer and is known for documenting the battle with 41 ledger drawings in 1881.[With:] HARBAUGH, Paul.
