Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Quarter plate and sixth plate tintypes of Civil War soldiers in Union cases.
Quarter plate tintype seated portrait of a young soldier wearing a kepi with indecipherable insignia and a somewhat forlorn expression on his face. (Crackling to image, with some scratching and some loss along/near edge; unsealed.) Housed in a Union case (hinges somewhat loose). -- Sixth plate seated tintype portrait of a young soldier wearing a frock coat with distinctly gold-highlighted epaulettes, trim, and buttons. He holds his cap in front of his stomach. (Edges with scratching and some loss, some light scratches and other surface imperfections throughout including some light creases/bends; unsealed.) Housed in a Union case together with a portrait of a lady. -- Together, 2 images of soldiers.
[With:] Sixth plate portrait of a pair of young boys standing together wearing the same outfit with blousy culottes and belted shirts. (Good clarity, scratching, creasing, and spotting to plate, oxidation to mat; unsealed.) Housed in an octagonal Union case with gilt detail and inset King William III insignia on interior velvet pad (non-functioning closure).
