Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A pair of sixth plate images of soldiers armed with 1861 Springfield rifle muskets.
Full standing ambrotype portrait of a soldier wearing a kepi with hunting horn insignia, dark blue trousers, and a Pattern of 1857 frock coat with shoulder scales and belt rig including cap pouch and oval belt plate. He holds an 1861 Springfield rifle musket to one side. (Some orange-colored flecks appear to be on image, great clarity overall; resealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case (surface wear). -- Full standing tintype portrait of a young corporal wearing a frock coat and belt rig with oval belt plate, cap pouch, and rather droopy scabbard. He holds his 1861 Springfield rifle musket pointed upward in front of him. (Image a bit dark or overexposed in some areas, with some chemical deterioration and spotting throughout, scratching around mat opening; unsealed.) Housed in a pressed paper case (nearly fully separated along spine, closure hook missing). -- Together, 2 sixth plate images of soldiers with Springfield rifle muskets.
