Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. 2 tintypes of soldiers, incl. possible musician with flag and drum in the background.
Sixth plate tintype portrait of a young soldier in full uniform posed with an American flag and a drum in the background. He wears what is likely a musician's sword on his sword belt, along with a revolver. (Image a bit dark, glass cloudy; unsealed.) Housed in a leatherette case with a laminated photocopy image of a similar-looking soldier identified in print as "George R. Moor," Company B, 64th Ohio Infantry. -- 6 1/2 x 8 3/8 in. loose tintype of a triply armed officer holding a saber upward in one hand, his long arm to one side with the other, and wearing a revolver in his belt. (Plate with several creases and cracks, areas of rusting, and other imperfections.) Verso bears modern paper with ink inscription identifying the officer as Captain Thomas Duvall of Caldwell County, KY. -- Together, 2 tintype portraits of Union soldiers.
George R. Moore enlisted as a private on 10 October 1861 and mustered into Company B of the 64th Ohio that same day. He was promoted the following month to musician. He mustered out in December of 1864 at Nashville, TN.
Thomas M. Duvall enlisted as a captain at Smithland, KY on 15 October 1861. He was commissioned into Company H of the 20th KY Infantry in January of the following year. He resigned nearly 3 months later on 26 March 1862.
