Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. 5 cased images of soldiers, incl. a 21st infantry second lieutenant.

Sixth plate tintype vignetted bust portrait of a young, confident second lieutenant wearing a kepi with "21" infantry insignia. (Very clear image, sharp focus; partly resealed.) Housed under patriotic mat in fully separated pressed paper case with gilt eagle and flag on cover (split at spine, surface wear and loss). -- Ninth plate ambrotype of a handsome, young soldier wearing a Hardee hat with "B" insignia. The collar of his jacket is highlighted in red indicating that he is an artilleryman. (Chemical deterioration/discoloration bordering subject and around mat opening; unsealed.) Housed in a Union case with geometric/floral design (separation at top hinge, non-functioning closure). -- Ninth plate tintype of a mustachioed soldier posed before a camp scene backdrop with an American flag visible at far right. (Image a bit dark; unsealed.) Housed in full pressed paper case (wear and some loss to exterior). -- Ninth plate ruby ambrotype of a man, likely a soldier, holding his hand on his chest. (Some wear to edges of plate, some discoloration/chemical deterioration; unsealed.) Housed in half pressed paper case (surface wear). -- Ninth plate tintype of a mustachioed man in uniform, his buttons and heavy watch chain highlighted in gold. (Spotting and some discoloration/chemical deterioration to plate; unsealed.) Housed in half pressed paper case (surface wear). -- Together, 5 cased images of soldiers.
