Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. 6 ninth plate portraits of soldiers, incl. 2 portraits of possibly the same soldier.
A pair of ninth plate tintype portraits of what appears to be the same soldier, with a unique, somewhat spiked, hairstyle and faint mustache. In one image, he wears a Pattern of 1858 mounted services jacket, and in the other he wears a frock coat with gold-highlighted buttons and cuff details. (Both images with some surface imperfections; both unsealed.) Both housed in Union cases (nicking/chipping, loss, loose hinges, non-functioning closures, interior damage). -- Ninth plate ambrotype portrait of a soldier with a goatee and lightly pink-tinted cheeks, wearing a forage cap. (Light chemical discoloration/deterioration to edges, spotting and chemical flecking throughout; unsealed.) Housed in a half pressed paper case (surface loss). -- And 3 others, all tintypes. Conditions vary. -- Together, 6 ninth plate portraits of soldiers.
