Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR] DIX, John A. (1798-1879). 2 items, incl. letter signed by Maj. Gen. Dix & scarce CDV.

DIX, General John A. (1798-1879). Letter signed ("John A. Dix"), as Major General, addressed to C.A. Dana, Esq. Asst. Secy. of War. New York City, 20 February 1865. 1 page, 7 1/4 x 9 in. inset to 8 x 10 3/4 in, on "Headquarters Department of the East" letterhead, light folds. Dix references enclosing the accounts of Messer. Pierrepont (not included with the letter). He may be referring to Edwards Pierrepont, American attorney, reformer, and jurist who later served as US Attorney General under Ulysses S. Grant.

[With:] CDV of Dix as Major General. New York: C.D. Fredricks & Co. (rich tonality, slight loss to top right edge of print; light spotting to mount recto and verso). Possibly a unique view of Major General Dix.

Together, 2 items involving John A. Dix.
