Lot Description
[WRITING INSTRUMENTS]. A group of 19th-century embossing and writing implements, including:
"The Novelty Hand Stamp" embossing kit. Hartford, CT: Hubbard & Follett. Embossing kit "For Marking Clothing, Books, Cards, Etc. Etc." comprised of ink, stamping pad, stamp, and box of type, all housed in original cardboard box (box with heavy wear and some fully separated panels, ink staining to many pieces, possibly missing some pieces of type). Instructions on cardboard box provide directions for setting type into the stamp, inking the pad, and striking the inked type onto the desired surface.
Patented hand-held embossing device used by a Frederickton, Ohio chapter of the Daughters of Union Veterans. Approx. 4 1/2 x 3 1/2 in. metal seal embosser (rusting throughout, still functional). Mostly indecipherable patent marking on top handle. Embosser produces seal with text around edge reading, "Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War / 1861-65," and text at center reading, "Martha Washington / Tent No. 32, Frederickton, Ohio."
[Also with:] Additional implements including a "Farmers and Mechanics Hotel" stencil, a large number of brass nibs, and a "Patent Amalgam Pens" box.
