Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. Hand-colored CDV of the battle-torn National Colors of the 82nd Pennsylvania Infantry.

CDV on cardstock mount (toning, light edge wear). A beautifully hand-colored carte de visite showing the flag of the 82nd Pennsylvania Infantry, significantly damaged as a result of heavy fighting at Cold Harbor between late May and early June, 1864. Sergeant George W. Waterhouse, Co. I, is credited with carrying what remained of the 82nd Pennsylvania's flag.

The 82nd Pennsylvania was engaged in a number of significant battles during the war, including 1st Bull Run, the Peninsular campaign, Fair Oaks, Charles City crossroads, Marvin Hill, Chantilly, Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, Gettysburg, Funkstown, Rappahannock Station, Cold Harbor, Ft Stevens, Summit Point, Sheridan's valley campaign, and Sailors Creek. The 82nd PA was also at the extreme front when Lee surrendered.
