Collection of more than 800 documents, comprised primarily of partially printed checks, completed and signed, representing banks and other establishments in New Orleans, such as the Canal Bank, Citizen's Bank, Bank of America, New Orleans National Bank, Mutual National Bank, Manson Brothers, Hibernia Bank & Trust Co., Germania National Bank, German American National Bank, Samuel Smith & Co., Citizens' Bank of Louisiana, Louisiana State Bank, and other Louisiana banks. Additional banks represented outside Louisiana include First National Bank (Albia, IA), and Bank of Melrose (Melrose, WI), Pittsfield National Bank (Pittsfield, MA), Bank of Northern Kentucky (Covington, KY), and a check from "Thomas A. Edison private account." Many with US Internal Revenue Stamp affixed on front. Ca mid-19th century through early 20th century.
The following highlights are also included: Several checks issued by Burtschell & Co., completed and signed in New Orleans or Vicksburg, MS, most issued to "Messieurs E. Martin & Co., cotton buyers," dated ca early 20th century. -- 5 sheets comprised of 4 $5 US bonds of the State of Louisiana. -- Documents and checks related to merchants and steamship lines, including Steamship General Grant, Cromwell New York and New Orleans Steamship Line, Lehman, Newgass & Co. (merchants), Baker & Co. (merchants). -- Stock certificates for various businesses throughout the United States, including General Motors Corp., Howard Johnson Co., American Telephone and Telegraph Co., Rayette-Faberge Co., Gulf States Utilities Co., and more. -- Printed document detailing the New-York Sugar Market comparative stocks and prices, New Orleans, 10 November 1858. -- Ph. P. Werlein Music Store handbill, New Orleans, LA. -- Promotional pamphlet for F.W. Devoe & Co., manufacturers of pure mixed paints for sale by Augustin & Delery, New Orleans, LA, with interior spread featuring a sample of shades. -- Numerous consolidated bonds issued by the State of Louisiana, majority with "Purchased & Retired" ink stamps. -- World's Columbian Exposition, Chicago" admission card for 1 May - 30 October 1893 featuring portrait of Benjamin Franklin. -- And much more.
