Halfstock Heavy Barrel Percussion Kentucky Rifle by P.A. Reinhard ca.1871
.36 caliber. 31" octagonal barrel length. SN: NSN. Browned metal finish. Striped maple stock has a plain straight grip and forearm with steel or pewter forend. Percussion rifle with notch rear sight and brass blade front sight. Item features an engraved circular patchbox to right side, double set triggers, and crescent buttplate. Barrel is marked MADE BY P. A. REINHARD/LOUDONVILLE/1871 AS CoO to top surrounded by two Masonic emblems.
P. A. Reinhard was a gunsmith known for fine craftsmanship. He arrived from Germany at the age of six and lived in Columbus, Ohio until the age of 22. He then moved to Loudonville, Ohio and apprenticed as a gunsmith under known as Sprague, also located in Loudonville. He died in Dayton, Ohio around 1899.
