Gas piston driven semi-automatic rifle fed by an internal magazine charged with en-bloc clips. The rifle mounts a Griffin & Howe marked quick detach side mounted scope base and features a STITH-KOLLMORGEN 4X telescopic sight. A further P proof mark appears on the right barrel near the date marking of S-A-8-52, indicating it was manufactured in August of 1952 by the Springfield Armory. Further SA-52 mark appears on top of the receiver above the standard model mark reading U.S. RIFLE/CAL. .30M1/SPRINGFIELD/ARMORY. Former mark indicates that the rifle was rebuilt at Springfield Armory at the correct time for the United States Marine Corps' MC-1 sniper rifles. No arsenal marking appears on the left wrist. Scope marking reads STITH MOUNTS S.A. TEX. 4X DOUBLE/KOLLMORGEN OPTICAL CORP/NORTHAMPTON MASS. U.S. PAT. 2,625,742/& PAT. PENDING. This marking does not correspond to the markings of Marine Corps utilized versions of this scope. Item is fitted with black rubber STORM QUEEN eyecups. Item features the Griffin & Howe pattern scope mount with the base showing the marking GRIFFIN & HOWE INC. NEW YORK/PAT. # 1.856.549 MAY 3. 1932, and provides a longer scope mount necessary for installing the upgraded optic. A leather cheek pad attached to the stock shows the manufacturer number MRT/1 52, the correct marking for Korean War era examples of this component, and indicating it was installed in January 1952. No MC and serial number markings have been applied to the scope. Rifle additionally mounts a Model 1907 pattern leather sling with brass fittings.
