Lot Description
Trio of Pitkin, Colorado Stereoviews Showing the Mining Town and Surroundings
Lot of 3 stereoviews of Pitkin, Colorado, each lacking a studio imprint but including a period inked caption that identifies each scene, ca 1880. Featuring a view of several men gathered together outside the Assay Office as well as a photographer's tent, with sign that reads "Photograph Gallery"; a Fourth of of July celebration in Pitkin; and a distant view of "Pitkin, Looking North-East, Up the Valley."
Founded in 1879, Pitkin was Colorado's first mining camp west of the Continental Divide. The population today is 66, down from over 1800 in 1880, the time that these photographs were taken.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
