Casa LaPort Percussion Shotgun with Carved Stock
.48 caliber (42 bore). 31.25" wedge-retained fluted round barrel with partial underlug. NSN. Browned Damascus patterned finish, steel mountings, stock with checkered wrist and carved toe decorated with a man's face with "googly eyes". Lightly engraved percussion lock marked CASA LAPORT. Barrel lightly engraved and marked TRACHADO FINO (fine steel). Belgian proofs at bolster. Sling swivels at toe of stock and middle ramrod pipe. Brass tipped wooden ramrod.
Case LaPort (House of LaPort) was a Rio de Janerio (Brazil) based import and retail outlet for the Belgian-made arms of the LaPort family of gunmakers, operating under the names of LaPort Freres & Co and LaPort & Co. That company worked circa 1840-1860 in Brazil, eventually becoming Emil LaPort & Co and remaining in the arms trade in Brazil until the early 1900s.

Condition Report
Good. Bore good, smooth and moderately oxidized. Metal with moderate oxidation and some surface rust. Mechanically functional lock. Stock with scattered bumps, dings and mars.
