Ames Knight's Head Militia Officer's Sword
Mexican American War
31.25" blade length. 37.75" overall with scabbard and hilt. Acid etched double edged fullered blade with brass cruciform guard and knight's head pattern brass pommel, ivory grips, and peened tang construction. Guard adorned with single stars to each side enclosed by wreaths with quillons terminating in buds. Two lengths of brass chain connect the knight's chinstrap to the quillon. Grips are carved with geometric designs radiating from the quillons. Blade is etched with panoplies of arms enclosed by wreaths and floral borders. Comes with brass scabbard marked AMES MFG CO./CHICOPEE/MASS to the throat. Scabbard features a replaced lead soldered copper band enclosing the lower ring, and lacks liner to throat.
