U.S. Model 1816/22/27 Socket Bayonet with Rare U.S. Pattern 1851 Scabbard
Mexican American War
16" prow point blade with 8.25" face flute and 3" friction fit socket with T-mortise for a top stud. Ricasso marked US. Left of socket marked 16 forward of the mortise and G at the rear. The bayonet is in a US Pattern 1851 scabbard with a curved sewn-only frog without rivet reinforcements, a body designed for the 16" blade with wide, squared shoulders and with a brass drag attached with only two copper brads on the rear, as is correct.
