Lot Description
A Rare and Unusual Indian Sainti Parry Dagger
4.5" blade. 7.5" x 16.5" overall. Double edged spear point blade with central medians and chiseled warrior/noble vignettes to both sides. Grip and guard are of steel construction and feature seven fixed steel balls on both sides, as well as simple etched floral design to knuckle guard. Most likely of 19th century origin.

The "sainti" is an Indian parry weapon or pole arm of Arab origin, developed during the 16th-19th centuries for offensive and defensive purposes. Considering swords were expensive and usually only carried by affluent officers, the sainti became a highly effective utilitarian alternative used by foot soldiers. They have many variations and can be found in the forms of clubs, axes, spears, and push daggers.
This lot is located in Cincinnati.
