First edition of Scottish naturalist John Bradbury's account of his travels through the American west, "one of the most accurate and pleasingly written travel accounts of this period of American history" (Clark). Bradbury travelled to America on behalf of the Botanical Society at Liverpool, and made trips up the Missouri River to the Arikara and Mandan villages, and then travelled south to New Orleans. Along the way he collected valuable specimens of plant life, met the then 84-year-old Daniel Boone, and recorded important information about the natural resources of America's frontier.
