Lot Description
Richmond F. Parker, Principal Musician, Company C, 19th Michigan Infantry, US Army regulation bugle engraved with battle honors.
15 1/2 x 7 1/2 x 5 1/2 in. single twist bugle comprised of copper body while the mouthpiece, floating rim, and connecting joints are brass (copper tubing has period field repairs, with dents that are characteristic of field use). The bugle is inscribed with the owner’s name and battle honors: “R.F. Parker / Principal Musician / 19th Mich. Infy. / Resaca / Cassville / Dallas Woods / New Hope Church / Golgothe [sic] Church / Culps Farm / Kennesaw Mt. / Peach Tree Creek / Atlanta / Savannah / Aversboro / Bentonville.”
[With:] April 2015 auction house advertisement from which James Frasca obtained the bugle.
At the age of 26, Richmond F. Parker enlisted as a private and mustered into Company C, 19th Michigan Infantry on 9/5/1862. He was promoted to principal musician on 6/1/1864. Parker mustered out on 6/10/1865 at Washington, DC, and lived in Coldwater, MI, after the war.
