Lot Description
Captain Albert W. Stiles, 6th Ohio Volunteer Cavalry Regiment. Beef rib bones carried during the war.
Pair of approx. 5 5/8 in. beef rib bones (general surface wear throughout, with heavier wear to the end of one bone). Provenance: Descended in the family of Albert Stiles, through his granddaughter Carol Schultz, to another Civil War collector and ultimately to James Frasca. Letter from previous owner attests to this provenance and mentions that Captain Stiles carried the bones and played them as one would play the spoons on the upper leg.
[With:] CDV vignetted portrait of Stiles as sergeant (minor spotting, soiling, and a few marks to image affecting portrait, with general wear to mount edges and corners). Twinsburgh, OH: J.W. Fessenden, n.d. 2 1/8 x 3 1/2 in. on cardstock mount.
