Lot Description
Civil War corporal / private's shoulder scales.
Brass shoulder scales originally designed to protect the enlisted soldier from saber blows on the shoulder but typically worn on dress uniforms (minor dents and wear from use). This pair still retains the scarce attachment turnbuckles. Also included is an extra turnbuckle and one of the bars that the tongue of the scale goes through to secure to the shoulder. The original leather under the scales is still present. Accompanying the shoulder scales is a note from a previous owner stating where he obtained them.
