Lot Description
CHAMBERLAIN, Joshua (1828-1914). Autograph letter to wife Fanny Chamberlain requesting collapsible candlesticks. "Camp." 23 February 1862.
1 page, 7 7/8 x 12 1/4 in. Creased, with some separation at creases and loss to left edge and lower left corner. With Joshua L. Chamberlain calling card.
Chamberlain expresses his desire that Fanny come to the 20th Maine's camp for a long visit, adding, "If you do have any time, pray get me a pair of camp candle stick. There are some very convenient kinds, which screw together & form a neat little pocket case which one can put in a haversack & carry without breaking." Chamberlain signs the letter "L" (his middle name Lawrence), a sign off he commonly used with Fanny.
