Lot Description
Lieutenant William H. Whitten, 21st Indiana Light Artillery Regiment. Civil War stencil kit.
3 1/2 x 1 5/8 x 1 1/4 in. wooden top slide box containing stencil, brush, and ink bottle (stencil with some bending and ink residue, brush bristles stiff, overall kit with wear consistent with age and use). Stencil reads, "Wm. H. Whitten. / 21st Ind LA." Ink bottle features original blue label with printed directions for use.
William H. Whitten (middle initial listed as "M" in HDS), a resident of South Bend, Indiana, enlisted as a sergeant on 9 September 1862, was promoted to 2nd lieutenant on 18 September 1864, and mustered out at Indianapolis, Indiana on 25 June 1865.
