16mo. Illustrations demonstrating firing techniques. (Page edges worn.) Publisher's original color-illustrated wrappers (minor toning, expected wear to extremities).

"Watson's Edition," a northern war-date issue of the popular tactical guide. Written by West Point graduate and Mexican-American War veteran who joined the Confederacy at the start of the war. 

[With:] DAVIDSON, Michael. Autograph letter signed ("Michael Davidson") to his wife, Fanny Davidson. N.p., 11 March 1863. 8vo, 5 x 7 in., soiling, with stamped envelope with cancellation from Baltimore, MD dated 8 September 1863.

Written in the soldier's hand, the envelope is addressed to “Mrs. Fanny Davidson, Near Erie Co. Pa.” The wife wrote on the cover “The last letter from my dear husband.” The notation, “Soldier’s Letter,” is also included on the front. The envelope contains a poem "Ever of The[e]" penned by the soldier, Michael Davidson, as well as a clipped illustration from a patriotic envelope.
