Civil War soldier carved wooden knuckles found on line of retreat from New Market Battlefield, Virginia. [May 1864].
4 3/8 x 2 1/2 in. carved wooden knuckles accompanied by a browned ink tag that reads, “Found on Zeigler’s Hill near Mt. Jackson, Va. where there was fierce fighting by Seigles [Sigel's] Army retreating from the battle of New Market. Presented Mrs. Effie S____t” (light surface wear to wooden knuckles).
[With:] An 1884 invitation to a musical event at Polytechnic Hall, New Market, with cover addressed to "Cousin Sim and Wife, New Market, Virginia Shen (Shenandoah) Co.”
