Lot Description
LEE, Robert E. (1807-1870). Oversize albumen photograph of Lee astride Traveller. [Lexington, VA]: Michael Miley, [September 1866]. 

Sight 15 3/8 x 12 5/8 in. albumen photograph. (Toned). Matted and framed (not examined out of frame). Photographer's name "M. Miley" embossed to lower corner of mount recto.

Taken post-War when Lee had accepted the presidency of Washington College (now Washington and Lee University) in Lexington, VA. One of the few photographs that exist of Lee on his horse, Traveller. He wears his uniform, slouch hat, and gauntlets, although the insignia have been removed.
