Allen" in the Navy Register, Acting Third Assistant Engineer (discharged 7/5/65). -- "G.W.W. Dove," as identified in ink. Uncredited (image badly faded). Third Assistant Engineer George W.W. Dove (resigned 8/10/63). -- Subject tentatively identified in period pencil as "Capt. (James W.) Shirk / USN." St. Louis: J. Sidney Brown. Shirk died in service as Commodore 2/10/73. -- "M.H. Together, 10 CDVs, 2 1/4 x 3 1/2 in., or smaller, on cardstock mounts. Nine of the CDVs are in very good condition, with minor mottling, corner and edge wear to mounts. 

[With:] Sixth plate daguerreotype portrait of an unidentified man and young boy, perhaps father and son. (some surface wear, spotting to plate, edge tarnish.) The plate has been resealed while the fancy stamped brass hardware is indicative of a style that came into use in the mid-1850s. Housed in full pressed paper case. -- Ninth plate tintype portrait of a mustachioed young man. (Image a bit dark, edge tarnish.) Housed in an octagonal geometric Union case (hinges loose). Written beneath the missing pillow is the name "Adam Steiz."
