Lot Description
[WORLD WAR II]. Ephemera associated with Germany and occupied Japan.
Sino-Japanese War Picture Book, 1940. OD green leather, 8 x 12”, string-tied spine. Each page of photos with a tissue guard. Captions, titles, etc. all in kanji. The second Sino-Japanese War (1937-1945) became the part of the China-Burma-India Theater in WWII. The Japanese attack on China marks the beginning of WWII in Asia for some historians.
Japanese (?) fan, circular fan with flowers that comes out of the head of a paper mache figure when his hat is pulled upward. The figure is very military with OD green uniform, sword hanging at his side. Hat is a red fez.

Cover from U.S. soldier, contains valentine in Japanese and English and two ten peso notes from the Japanese Government. Each marked “PE,” possibly from the Japanese occupation of the Philippines. Cover is addressed to Mrs. F.B. Vincent, Pomona Calif., from Don J. Losey, 90th N.C.B. (Naval Construction Battalion?)
Japanese Noren Doorway curtain, 13 x 36”, with simple design of a kanji figure in brown and blue stripes. Apparently this figure doesn’t really have a translation, it is more of a “good luck” symbol.
Wire (metal screen) mask of Japanese man, with hair (horse?) eyebrows and moustache. Life-sized.
[With:] German broadside: Wir mussen England Schlagen! (We must beat England) 8-5/8 x 11-1/4” “The 6th war bond must become the decision bond.” Berlin.

Group of 6 papers associated with Ob. Ltn. Wilhelm Waldhorst, including an identification document, cloth with photo of Waldhorst in uniform. 4 x 6”; another seems to be a commission as lieutenant captain, dated Berlin, 30 Jan. 1944; a third seems to name Waldhorst as chief mechanic (A) in the artillery; a fourth has ANS by Fritz Sauckel, SS Obergruppenfuehrer; plus a form telling him he has been called up for probationary service on 1 Jan. 1939 according to the naval artillery school. Another larger document seems to indicate that he is to be employed as an instructor at the naval school, 26 Sept. 1939. This one signed by Admiral Raeder. Another document, TNS, dated 18 Feb. 1935 expresses regret that Frau von Papen would not be able to attend a luncheon to which she was invited since she had to leave Vienna to care for a daughter who became ill at boarding school. Letter in English. On letterhead indicating “the Plenipotentiary of the German Empire on a special Mission.” In Wein (Vienna).
