Lot Description
HARRISON, William Henry (1773-1841).  Indiana Territory survey document signed ("Willm. Henry Harrison"), as 1st Governor of the Indiana Territory, Saint Vincennes, 26 December 1801.

1p, approx. 8 x 4 1/8 in. (dampstaining, chipping at edge lines, creases at folds). Docketing on verso.

The document is addressed "To the Surveyor of Knox County" authorizing and requiring him to conduct a survey for the heirs of Louis Carter, deceased, "By order of the Governor" William Henry Harrison. Also signed by John Gibson, Secretary of the Indiana Territory. 

Harrison was appointed by John Adams as the 1st Governor of the Indiana Territory and took office on 10 January 1801. Knox County is the oldest county in Indiana, and was one of the two original counties created in the Northwest Territory in 1790.
