Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. A group of documents related to Texas and the Trans-Mississippi Theater, comprising:
"Moses Nussbaum v. Capt. Wm. Patterson." Approx. 7 1/2 x 8 1/2 in. manuscript ordering Captain William Patterson to release Moses Nussbaum from his custody as he is discharged from his regiment and from military service to the state of Texas. Collin County, Texas. 20 October 1863. Signed by District Judge R.S. Waddill.
HDS indicates Nussbaum enlisted on 3/1/1862 as a private and mustered into Co. D, Texas 22nd Cavalry. The document verifies this, indicating Nussbaum served out the period of his enlistment as a member of Colonel James G. Stevens's regiment, the 22nd Regiment Texas Cavalry (1st Indian-Texas Regiment). It seems Nussbaum was arrested as a deserter and appealed to the court for satisfaction.
