Lot Description
[CIVIL WAR]. GAR badges and ribbons, many 11th Ohio Volunteer Infantry, incl. IDed ladder badge.

Ladder badge inscribed to W. Carroll. Approx. 1 3/4 x 3 1/4 in. metal ladder badge with blue silk ribbon, pin soldered to verso. Reads: "Co. K / 11'Ohio. / Vol Inf. / W. Carroll. 3' Div." featuring the Acorn corps badge of the XIVth corps. William Carroll (alt. Carol) enlisted as a private on 21 October 1862 and was mustered into Co. K of the 11th Ohio the same day. He transferred to Co. I of the 11th Ohio Battalion Infantry on 21 June 1864 and while in their service was listed as a prisoner of war on 29 January 1864 at Sister's Ferry, GA. He was paroled on 1 March 1865 and mustered out with the regiment at Camp Chase, OH on 20 June 1865. His later transfer suggests this ladder badge to be war-date. 

[With:] 13 ribbons from the 11th Ohio Volunteer Infantry reunions including 1893, 1894 (with 2-tier metal badges with XIVth Corps acorn), 1895, 1897, 1898 (with 2-tier metal badges with XIVth Corps acorn), 1899, 1900 (with celluloid battle scene), 1902 (with celluloid elements), 1903 (with celluloid patriotic shield pinback), 1904, 1905 (with celluloid pinback) 1908, 1909. -- 1906 two-tier metal and celluloid badge. -- Together, 14 commemorative ribbons and badges from reunions of the 11th Ohio Volunteer infantry, condition generally very fine. The 11th Ohio saw extensive a citon throughout the war including the Battles of Second Bull Run, Antietam, Chickamauga, the Sieges of Chattanooga and Atlanta, and Sherman's March to the Sea.

[With:] Shadowbox presentation composed of: GAR In Memoriam pinback and ribbon from Philadelphia Post No. 5. -- GAR hat badge. -- GAR two-tier badge with American flag ribbon. -- Approx. war-era cover with red 3-cent stamp addressed to Mr. Alvin Conklin of Great Bend, Susquehanna Co., Pennsylvania. -- Badge with tri-color ribbon and celluloid medallion with battle scene. -- American flag with Gettysburg text. -- GAR cufflink. -- Together, 7 items framed together in a shadowbox presentation, not examined out frame. 

[Also with:] 4 Civil War-era tokens -- 2 General Staff buttons (tag attributes to General Grant's coat). -- 2 GAR two-tier badges with American flag ribbon. -- 32nd GAR National Encampment badge. -- Partial Sons of Veterans 1895 badge. -- XIVth Corps acorn charm. -- 1912 Columbus Centennial Veteran two-tier celluloid badge. -- 2 Boys of '61 ribbons, 1916 and 1921. -- Dedication Annex to Pythian Home for the Aged. Springfield, OH, 25 June 1922. -- 1998 Gettysburg memoiral ribbon. -- Together, 16 items, condition generally very good to fine.
