Givenchy Early Ready-to-Wear Dress, 1957


This dress is a rare example of early ready-to-wear from Givenchy in Spring/Summer 1957. “In 1954, Hubert de Givenchy was the first couturier to launch a ready-to-wear collection – called GIVENCHY UNIVERSITE - produced in Paris on machines imported from the US”. 

Black silk dress printed with all-over floral design and cut with a square neckline, short sleeves, and seams extending from the shoulders to the waist with pleating details. The dress is unlined and is fininshed with a side zip.

The overall condition is good as the interior lining has some holes and snags, loose threads at the side zipper, and some popped threads at the back box pleat and hem.
