Lot Description
[WWII]. Diary and ephemera archive of Emerson J. Duricky, 3rd Brigade Army, Amphibious.
World War II Pacific Theatre archive including an 85pp diary, documents, terrain maps, reunion poster, postcards, menus, newspaper clippings, photographs, a Japanese flag with capture papers, and more.
US Department of Veterans Affairs records indicate that Emerson James Duricky (1920-2001) enlisted on 25 June 1942 and was discharged on 18 December 1945. The diary indicates that Duricky left the US 23 November 1942 and arrived at Milne Bay, New Guineau on 12 December 1942, then to Goodenough Island 23 December 1942, and arrived at Arawe New Britain on 28 February 1943. Additional troop movements and engagements are mentioned within the diary, though the diary does not include consecutively dated entries in a traditional format. Duricky's diary includes what seem to be more spontaneous entries ranging from personal reflections (ex. things he is looking forward to returning to, his ideal female, etc.), to poetry, to remarks about fellow soldiers, to description of specific engagements.
