Lot Description
[WWII]. "Dog Tag" of Sgt. Harold Hokenson, KIA 2-6-45. [With:] Additional war-era ephemera.
Approx. 2 x 1 1/8 in. identification tag with hole at left and stamped "Hokenson Harold L. / 42001920 T43 44 0."
Hokenson was a Staff Sergeant, U.S. Army Air Forces, 832nd Bomber Squadron, 486th Bomber Group, Heavy. He was a ball turrret gunner on B-17 #43-37992 flying a mission to the oil refinery at Bohlen, Germany on 6 February 1945. Upon return from the mission the plane was lost with all crewman aboard approx. 100 miles from its field at Sudbury. The tag was recovered from the Sudbury Airfield dump along with the tags of other soldiers KIA from the unit. A small amount of background material and modern photography related to Hokenson and his service accompanies the dog tag.
