[MAINE]. 19th-century documents related to the state of Maine, including:
Manuscript document signed by subscribers of the Mousam Navigation Company indicating the sums to which they are pledged to aid in the construction and completion of the said enterprise promoting the improved navigation of the Mousam River. Kennebunk [Maine]. 2 September 1846. 1p, 7 3/4 x 19 in. (folds, light toning). Signed by 19 subscribers with notes indicating whether committed sum has been paid. Documented on verso: "Subscription in aid of the Compy - Augt. 1846." -- "Permit to Joseph Wells to navigate the Mousam Canal." December 1846 permit in which the Mousam Navigation Company grants to Joseph Wells of Kennebunk in the county of York permission to operate one sailing vessel into and out of the Mousam River in Kennebunk through the new entrance and canal of said river.
[With:] "Names of the members of a Company draughted [sic] to do Garrison duty at Kennebunk point Sept 8th till Octr 8th 1814." Followed by a list of 19 names under command of Lieutenant George Wheelright. 1p, 8 x 10 in. Docketed on verso "Wheelrights Roll." -- 1834 document related to the pension claims of Benjamin Stevens, late a private of Captain Lathorp's company of the 33rd regiment US Infantry. Signed by Stevens and Kennebunk Justice of the Peace Edward Bourne. -- 1838 Treasury Department pension document related to the service of James Murray, US, deceased and transmitted care of Edward Bourne of Kennebunk.
