Civil War painted military snare drum featuring four drummers and officer. Manufactured by W.G. Metzerott & Co., Washington City, DC.


14 1/2 in. ht., 17 5/8 in. dia. snare drum with hand painted body (beautiful patina, shows hard field use, both heads are intact, original rope fasteners with metal clips attached to the rims, top rim worn as a result of being struck by the drumsticks, five original leather tighteners, gut snares, and brass tightener mechanism are present). One side features a full color rendering within a 6 3/4 in. circle of four drummers posed with their drums and an officer wearing a red sash. With partial manufacturer's label marked, “W.G. Metzerott / Southwest Corner of Pennsylvania Avenue Washington City," and partial illustration of the company's three-story building below.
