Regulation dark blue wool artillery shell jacket with field modifications. As per regulations the jacket includes twelve general service eagle buttons down the front. It has the red trim for the artillery branch on the collar, down the front, on each cuff, and on the bottom edge. Two red corporal’s chevrons are sewn to the sleeves (color, wear, and darkening indicate that the chevrons are original to the jacket). The collar has been reduced in height from the regulation 2 in. to 1 1/2 in. The jacket still retains one set of red lace and button on each side of the collar. The top collar trim was removed by the soldier to permit his head and neck from chafing. The trim on the back of the jacket and the belt support pillows were also taken from the uniform. The cotton body lining is complete (color has changed from white to a dirty tan due to age and use, two seam separations at the right armpit and the back collar).

An extremely presentable and scarce jacket featuring modifications and wear consistent with actual use in the field making it much scarcer than the surplus artillery shell jackets typically offered for sale.
