Lot Description
Corporal George M. Emrick, Company I, 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry. Union Army Knife.
2-piece Union Army Knife including knife, fork, and spoon appendages (wear consistent with use, rusting in spots). Fork base stamped "Army Knife / Union." Pieces separate via keyhole slots into a knife piece and a fork and spoon piece. Accompanied by early ink museum tag reading, "Army Combination Eating Set. Carried and Used by Corporal George M. Emrick. Through 4 years of Cival [sic] War. / G.C.E." Tag verso with Emrick's service history as well as his regiment's battle participation.
George M. Emrick mustered in to Co. I, 62nd Pennsylvania Infantry as a corporal on 29 July 1861, and served in that regiment until 3 July 1864, when he transferred into Company I of the 155th Pennsylvania Infantry. Emrick’s name is misspelled “Emerick” and he is listed as a private on the 62nd’s panel of the Pennsylvania monument at Gettysburg.
