Modern ink note on paper backing identifies subject as "Persifor Frazer (b. 1844)." -- Together, 2 daguerreotypes of the charming Frazer boy. 

Persifor Frazer sat for a portrait session with Marcus Root in the early 1850s, having multiple daguerreotypes produced from that sitting. The colonial costume image featured here appears to be the same image, possibly the original image, from which a CDV of Persifor was created by Philadelphia photographer Montgomery Simons, now curated by the Library Company of Philadelphia. Other CDVs in that collection feature portraits of Persifor as an adult, including one in which he poses again in costume, as though he is studying, in Freiburg, Germany.
