[WISCONSIN TERRITORY] -- [WISCONSIN]. Scarce Wisconsin Territory imprint "Rules for the Government of the Council, of Wisconsin Territory" and early State Historical Society of Wisconsin broadsides. 

Rules for the Government of the Council, of Wisconsin Territory. Adopted by the Council, December 19th, 1843. Madison, Wisconsin Territory: Sheldon & Hyer, 1843. 10pp., 4 3/4 x 7 1/2 in. (Spotting, creasing.) Original wraps (partially detached, soiling, modern pencil inscriptions). Front wrapper ink inscribed, "C.M. Baker."

[With:] Circular of the State Historical Society of Wisconsin. Madison, WI, 1854. 8 1/4 x 10 3/8 in. broadside (creasing, light wear to edges and corners). Undersigned in type by 10 members of the historical society executive committee. Very early Wisconsin broadside invites contributions of manuscript and printed materials representing the history, geography, and culture of Wisconsin and the Northwest. Items specifically requested include, "Manuscript statements and narratives of pioneer settlers, old letters and journals, relative to the early history and settlement of Wisconsin, and of the Black Hawk War; and facts illustrative of our Indian tribes, their history, characteristics, sketches of their prominent chiefs, orators and warriors, together with the contributions of Indian implements, dress, ornaments and curiosities...Drawings and depictions of our ancient mounds and fortifications, their size, representation and locality...Books of all kinds..." [With:] Lyman C. Draper circular. Madison, WI, 25 May 1858. 7 3/4 x 9 3/4 in. letterpress broadsheet (disbound, creased). Circular undersigned in type by Lyman C. Draper as Historical Society of Wisconsin Secretary of State. Draper informs recipients that the State Historical Society of Wisconsin is seeking a grant of lands from Congress. Draper communicates the society's intention to secure a concert of action to bolster its petition.
